Cydectin
Dosage depends on which Cydectin you were given as there are four
different products on the market and each has a different amount of
moxidectin in it: Cydectin sheep drench has only 1 mg/kg moxidectin in
it and has to be dosed at 25 ccs per 100 lbs to be effective; next is
the Cydectin Pour-On containing 5 mg/kg moxidectin and a dosage of 5 ccs
per 100 lbs; third on the list is Cydectin injectable that contains 10
mg/kg moxidectin and is dosed at 2.5 ccs per 100 lbs; and last but not
least (actually the strongest formulation) is Quest Horse dewormer gel
with a strength of 20 mg/kg moxidectin and a dose of 1.25 ccs per 100
lbs.
We have used three of the four types of Cydectin for many years and it
continues to work well on our goats. We have given it orally,
regardless of whether it's a pour-on, injectable or oral gel, but we
only use when needed according to fecal exam results. We have never
used the Cydectin Sheep Drench as it requires such a large dose to be
effective it seems cost prohibitive.
The manufacturer's insert reads, "When used according to label
directions, neither a pre-slaughter drug withdrawal period nor a milk
discard time are required. Meat and milk from cattle treated with
CYDECTIN (moxidectin) Pour-On may be used for human consumption at any
time following treatment." However, "according to label directions" is
as a pour-on for cattle, so there is no published information specific
to withdrawal times when given orally to dairy goats.
