2020 Update - Well 2020 was a bit of a loss due to the Covid19 pandemic. We did not have any shows in our area at all and we did not have the herd on milk test. We DID however buy a wonderful new property with acreage for the herd to roam and graze!
2021 - A late start to the year and show season BUT so far it's been worth the wait! We were blessed to be able to get our herd appraised this year! We had a GREAT TIME and got some AMAZING scores and feedback!
(6th F) GCH (pending) Bellafire BP Flower Girl EEEE 91 (Her dam is GCH Sweet Alyssum who is also VEEE 91)
(3rd F) Bellafire MM Garden Party VEEE 90 (this is GCH Flower's daughter, so a consistent long line of very high appraising doe's!)
(1st F) Bellafire LTB Midsummer Night VVEV 89
(2nd F) Bellafire 8SR Jenga VEEE 90
(2nd F) Bellafire EN Wine N Roses VVVV 88 (another young daughter of GCH Flower Girl, Granddaughter of GCH Sweet Alyssum)
(1st F) Bellafire EN Surprise Party V+VV 88 (stunning 1st freshening doe from Encore & Garden Party. Garden is daughter to GCH Flower)
- "Barn in the USA" Washington Show, our first show of 2021!- All the girls did WONDERFUL placing in the upper half of HUGE competitive classes! Attending was Jenga, MidSummer Night, Wine N Roses, Garden Party, Surprise Party, and Flower Girl - Flower Girl WON her final GCH win in her 1st ring! This finishes her as a 2nd generation, GCH Bellafire Farm doe and she and her GCH mother both scored 91 on their LA as well!! Whoo-hoo! I am VERY excited to see Flower daughter Garden and granddaughter Surprise follow in these GCH footsteps!
- Jackson Co/Leilia Berry show - All the girls placed in the top half of their classes under all 3 judges. Bellafire EN Surprise Party was RGCH under judge Rebecca Nix. The GCH doe in that ring is a finished CH already, so I'm hopeful that this will be a full restricted leg for Surprise Party making it her 1st CH Leg as a 1st Freshening 2yr old! Surprise Party is daughter to Garden Party (Garden is daughter to GCH Flower Girl, and granddaughter to GCH Sweet Alyssum, so a LONG line of GCH is in the making!). Speaking of...Bellafire MM Garden Party won GCH & BOB under Kristopher Farley. This is her 1st year in the show ring and her 1st GCH win.
- Union County ADGA Show - Flower won GCH and Jenga won Best Udder & Reserve GCH under Mark Baden. Garden Party won GCH & BOB/BU under Jennifer Tereba, this will be Gardens 2nd ADGA leg, just 1 more win & she will be a 3rd generation Bellafire Farm finished GCH doe! (Gardens mother Flower was RGCH I believe)

Here is a few of the protocols that an A.I tech shared with me.
Initial: 3cc lutalyse
7th day: 1cc cystorelin
14th day: 3cc lutalyse
17th day: 1cc cystorelin and breed on this day AI or toss her in with the buck on day 14.
Initial day: 3cc lutalyse
7th day: 1cc cystorelin
14th day: 3cc lutalyse
Expose buck at day 16
17th day: 1cc cystorelin
Without Cystorelin,
Initial: 2cc lutalyse
10th day: 2cc lutalyse
Watch for signs of heat, follow up with the Am/Pm rule for typical AI breeding, or toss her in with the buck on day 8.
If you do want to use PG600, use 2cc. Try to pair it up with a CIDR if you can, still will work without it.
Initial: Lute 2.5cc, insert CIDR
11th day: Lute 2.5cc
12th day: remove CIDR, give 2-2.5cc PG600
She should be in heat day 13. Put her in with the buck once you remove the CIDR.

4/3/2022 - Microchipped all young kids/yearlings and any mature doe's that hadn't been done yet. Still need to do a few bucks...
After complete full fecal testing thru Oregon State Veterinary Service to learn EXACTLY what to treat for each goat in the herd... We are creating a new plan to treat and still ensure the safety of our bred doe's, I have added Durvet Goat Care 2x Dewormer feed additive. Ingredient: Contains Rumatel® (Morantel tartrate) 0.194% (0.88 grams per pound) For the removal and control of mature gastrointestinal nematode infections of goats including Haemonchus contortus, Ostertagia (Teladorsagia) circumcincta, and Trichostrongylus axei.
Feed as a single therapeutic treatment at 0.44 grams of morantel tartrate per 100 pounds of body weight. Fresh water should be available at all times. After medicated feed is consumed, resume normal feeding. Conditions of constant worm exposure may require treatment in 2 to 4 weeks. When used as a top dress the medication as well as the underlying feed should be evenly distributed.

- FDA Approved for use in all classes of goats
- Economical double strength formula - 4 oz. per 50 lb of body weight
- No milk withdrawal. 30 day slaughter withdrawal
- Convenient, single dose treatment at any time during production cycle, helping you to strategically deworm the entire herd.
- Very safe. Rumatel®, when administered during safety trials at twenty times the recommended level, produced no adverse reactions. Backed by years of safe use in goats.
- Does not adversely impact reproductive performance.
- May by used frequently. Conditions of constant worm exposure may require retreatment within 2 to 4 weeks.
We discovered a Barber Pole worm issue at the new property. Valbazen previously used with success is no longer effectively working. Researching Moxidectin which we've successfully used in years past, and also Prohibit/Levamisole dewormer as well, in an effort to utilize two different dewormer classes.
Interesting article/summary on moxidectin in goats/pregnant goats/kids... Click here for article from www.sciencedirect.com, "Safety and reproductive safety of moxidectin in goats" Overall, the conclusion is: 'It is concluded that although the drug appears to be safe for use to goats of all ages and reproductive stages, care should be taken to avoid inadvertent overdosing' and that the dewormer moxidectin 1% injectable given orally in this experiment is safe for all ages and pregnant/non pregnant animals.
Later read that Moxidectin Injectable should be 1cc per 50lbs versus 1cc per 100lbs.

September 15th, 2021_Online Info found about Prohibit Dewormer Use
Prohibit Dewormer for Sheep/Goats – this is an online conversation I found among other livestock sheep/goat breeders, it is not veterinary information or label instructions, it is simply online chatter:
Mixing Instructions for "STANDARD SHEEP DRENCH SOLUTION - Place the contents of each 52g powder packet in a one gallon (128 fl. oz.) container, fill with water; swirl until dissolved."
(The dosage for the standard solution would be .5 oz/50 lbs and .41 g/fl oz. There are two different sheep dosages on the label which makes it kind of confusing....I called the company, 'agrilabs' & told them that I needed a smaller dosage measure as I do not have a scale. First they had to state legally, they do not recommend mixing in any measure other than 1 package per gallon. But then they said if I did want to try it "at my own risk" I should use 1/2 teaspoon of Prohibit powder mix per 1 cup water. Dose @ 29.5cc per 100lbs OR 14.75cc per 50lbs OR 7.37cc per 25lbs.
So roughly: 30cc’s per 100lbs/22cc’s for 75lbs/15cc’s per 50lbs/7.5 cc’s per 25lbs)
**Personally this seems like a crazy high amount of liquid to try to dose goats with! So I'll try the 'concentrated sheep mix version' from the Prohibit label listed below instead.... (Click here to view Prohibit Label)
For the concentrated sheep mix directions (shown below) the dosage is 2 cc/50 lbs and 3 g/fl oz.
Additional mixing/dosing info per Prohibit Label: SHEEP-CONCENTRATED DRENCH SOLUTION- ...Mix contents of one 52g powder packet in a...measuring container and add water to the 17.5 fl oz level. Mix well until dissolved. Give 2 mL per 50 lb. body weight.
*Updated info found online from another breeder states: "Also I was told with Prohibit this dewormer inhibits thiamine so do recommend giving a dose of B complex as well." (Not sure if this is true??)

Interpretation of Casein Testing Results 3/24/2021
Interpretation of Casein Testing Results:
A and B variants, are associated with a high content of alpha-s1 casein in milk. *
E, F and N variants, are associated with a lower content of alpha-s1 casein in milk.
O1 represents a non-functional variant ("null") that is associated with lack of alpha-s1 casein production. Any combination of "high" variants will produce high amounts of alpha-s1 casein.
Any combination of "high" and "low" variants, or "high" and "null" variants, will produce intermediate amounts of alpha-s1 casein.
Any combination of "low" variants, with or without "null" will produce low amounts of alpha-s1 casein. Goats with two copies of the O1 "null" variant will not produce alpha-s1 casein protein.
* This test is not designed to detect subvariants of A and B.

Will dose mature doe herd with Quest Plus gel in August, 1.25cc per adult/100lbs. Will dose again Sept 1st and then run fecal on doe herd. Need to finish drying everyone up 8/20/2019-ish and then begin adding in Special Blend/Medicated Feed for winter/coccidia prevention.
BB starts off 2019 kidding season...3/21/2019
BB VERY EASILY kidded quads, 1 buckling got stuck in his sack before I could get to him. 3 GORGEOUS lovely doe kids are alive & healthy. All four kids were nice and big, equally sized. She has plenty of milk, no issues at all, got some colostrum/milk 24hrs after kidding to put in the freezer. BB is EXTREMELY attentive & an EXCELLENT mother keeping the kids close and spotless clean at all times.
New ReoLink POE Camera Install 3/16/2019
Purchased new Kidding Camera/Barn Monitoring system:
Reolink PoE 4MP HD Indoor/Outdoor Surveillance Camera, Night Vision/Audion/Remote Access/Motion Detection. RLC-410 $54.99 Amazon (purchased 1 to start, but will immediately buy more after seeing how great these are and how easy it is to setup!)
Link to the ReoLink products website: https://reolink.com/product/rlc-410/
Purchased CAT6 (GET ROUND CABLES/NOT FLAT CABLES!) PoE cabling 150ft to milkroom plus multiple 5-7ft sections for connections between Switch & Camera's. About $35 for all the cabling
Purchased NetGear 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch (GS305P), installed in the milk, via 150ft CAT6 cable from home to barn. $59.99
SUPER EASY SETUP!!! Just plugged in the CAT6 from my router to the NetGear switch, from the NetGear Switch to the ReoLink Camera, downloaded the Reolink App on my iphone and setup an account. Poof everything works GREAT!! Plus it has some seriously awesome night vision! I forgot to turn on the lights the first night, but when I checked the camera feed it was great! No additional like was necessary! Pic is nice and clear and I can tell every animal even in the pitch black!
* NOTE: REMOVE THE MOTION DETECTION because it seriously screeches out alarms like crazy and send notices!! Ugh! For some reason I do have to unclick the audio Mute every time I check it on my phone. Not sure why??

Cydectin/Moxidectin/Quest Dewormer Info found Online12/31/2018
Dosage depends on which Cydectin you were given as there are four
different products on the market and each has a different amount of
moxidectin in it: Cydectin sheep drench has only 1 mg/kg moxidectin in
it and has to be dosed at 25 ccs per 100 lbs to be effective; next is
the Cydectin Pour-On containing 5 mg/kg moxidectin and a dosage of 5 ccs
per 100 lbs; third on the list is Cydectin injectable that contains 10
mg/kg moxidectin and is dosed at 2.5 ccs per 100 lbs; and last but not
least (actually the strongest formulation) is Quest Horse dewormer gel
with a strength of 20 mg/kg moxidectin and a dose of 1.25 ccs per 100lbs.
We have used three of the four types of Cydectin for many years and it
continues to work well on our goats. We have given it orally,
regardless of whether it's a Injectable or oral gel, but we
only use when needed according to fecal exam results. We have never
used the Cydectin Sheep Drench as it requires such a large dose to be
effective it seems cost prohibitive.
The manufacturer's insert reads, "When used according to label
directions, neither a pre-slaughter drug withdrawal period nor a milk
discard time are required. Meat and milk from cattle treated with
CYDECTIN (moxidectin) Pour-On may be used for human consumption at any
time following treatment." However, "according to label directions" is
as a pour-on for cattle, so there is no published information specific
to withdrawal times when given orally to dairy goats.
